The Inner Circle, Protecting Journalists & Building Relationships
Dear Network
I don’t know about you, but it’s been a jammed packed week for us here at On the Circuit! We've got lots to share with you, so buckle up!
We started off the week with the release of a brand-new Circuit Magazine Podcast with Simeon Rosset who talked about the critical relationships and dynamics between the household staff and the protection team.
Meanwhile, a new issue of the Circuit Magazine is hot off the press today! Issue 57 is packed with features ranging from protecting principals that are children to the unique nuances of close protection work in the Middle East and much more!
And, drumroll please 🥁 … we are so excited to announce the release of the NABA Protector App from the North American Bodyguard Association and we've got Elijah Shaw here to tell you all about it.
Okay, let's get into this but first, some wise words of our podcast guest, Simeon Rosset, reflecting on the relationship between EP and the house team:
“Apart you’re good. But together, you can just do so much more!”
On the Circuit has you covered when you are busy covering others.
What's New?
New Circuit Magazine - Issue 57
Training specifically geared towards Preparing Journalists for Hostile Environments is sadly lacking due to ignorance, budget constraints and corporate neglect. At best this is a penny-pinching exercise, though the outcome can often be far grimmer. In issue 57, we’re understanding the factors contributing to this under-preparedness and examining what a realistic level of training should look like.
Also in Issue 57, we get a quick education on cultural sensitivities when Operating in the Middle East. Orlando Wilson continues his Tactical Firearms series while outlining some BASIC RANGE CONSIDERATIONS. James Bore is stressing why the emphasis should be on SECURITY and not CYBER when it comes to recruitment. Elijah is dropping a big announcement in his Keeping Your Edge column and we conclude George Sardelis’ blow by blow account of the Kidnapping of a Shipping Tycoon in part two of the series.
The Circuit Magazine Podcast, Episode 13
The Inner Circle - The Secret to Success in Executive Protection | Simeon Rosset — podcast.circuit-magazine.com
Working with the family office brings with it a unique set of challenges. The success that you have in working with your principal, will largely be determined by the relationships that you can foster with the household staff.
Today, we are talking to Simeon Rosset, founder of the Rosset Butler school about that dynamic that exists between executive protection and the house team, including the pivotal role that butlers serve. We’ll be discussing:
Who the butler is, where they fit into the hierarchy, and what their exact role and remit is?
How to take advantage of a challenging work schedule and use it as an opportunity to build a mutually beneficial relationship.
How to forge mutual respect and effective communication between all the different links in the chain.
And if you still think the butler is just the guy who pours the drinks, then this episode has tons more eye-opening information that you most definitely need to hear.
Just Launched: NABA Protector App
We're excited to announce the release of NABA Protector. The app is a product of the North American Bodyguard Association and it's the hottest thing on the market right now! It's a fully featured app designed to assist and support you throughout your career in protection. Find out about the app here or click on the video to hear Elijah tell you all about it.
From the Pages of the Circuit Magazine
This week I've pulled three articles from the archives which will help us better understand the personalities in the Principals inner circle and how to formulate strong relationships by seeing things from their point of view.
Read Kate Bright's journey of crossing the fence from the family office to protection team and what she learned in the process.
Kate Bright, a formal Personal Assistant is now making waves in the Close Protection Industry as a fully trained female bodyguard. "It’s useful to have seen both sides of the Private Office function and now, being more security-aware, I aim to work more with PA’s in private offices to talk about ways to help communication between the two functions.
Throughout your professional life, it’s important to make a good impression. The relationships you build are critical and in this article, Ed Hill explains how establishing a good rapport is essential if you want to progress professionally.
Good manners can be applied to several aspects of human life, including how we speak, the words we use, the tone of our voice, our gestures and our actions.
Good manners help to define you as a person, while etiquette is what makes you socially acceptable. Both help you to gain respect and create a good and lasting impression. When used in a professional capacity, good etiquette means that you act professionally and exercise proper manners when engaging with clients and colleagues.
Another important aspect of the inner circle is the Residential Security Team, they're often the bridge between the protection team and the house staff. In this article, Orlando Wilson takes us through the principles of good RS.
Why would criminals try to break into a residence when in a lot of cases they can easily get the occupants to open the doors themselves? Think about it, what would you do right now if someone crashed into your car? Would you go outside and see what had happened? Now you're in a position to be kidnapped and the bad guys have access to your house. A lot of houses have their electric mains outside, the same goes for generators. So, if the criminals cut the power, what will most people do; go out and investigate? Sever the connection to most peoples satellite TV and they will go out and check the dish. See the pattern? So do the criminals!
