Robotic-Assisted Protection

Science Fiction or Fact?

This week a large group dressed in Hazmat suits sparked fear in passengers arriving at Dublin Airport when they donned gloves, masks and even protective glasses before boarding a plane.

But it turns out they were a group of passengers travelling to China who were taking no risks with COVID-19 precautions.

Let's delve into this week's edition of On the Circuit, the newsletter that takes all reasonable precautions but tries not to alarm anyone in the process!

This week's rundown:

  • Robotics in EP: Science fiction or here and now?

  • Deep Fake: Are we entering an age of uncertainty?

  • Security Detail Carjacking: Chicago shootout

  • Self-Defence: What's your strategy and response?

The Circuit Magazine Podcast

Is EP ready for robots? It might sound like science fiction but in truth, it’s already here.

Today we’re joined by Mark Folmer of Robotic Assisted Devices and he’s going to help us unpack this topic so we can get, not just a better understanding of where the industry’s at, but more importantly, where it has the potential to go.

In this episode we'll explore:

  • Where could robots be useful on an EP operation and where are they already in use?

  • What problem are robotic-assisted devices trying to solve in the industry?

  • How do we take this concept out of science fiction and make it applicable to the executive protection industry?

  • How does the day rate for an EP agent compare to the rental of a robot, right now?

Listen to today's episode as we attempt to answer those questions and shine a light on this fascinating topic as a whole.

When broken down to their most basic components, the vast majority of traditional self-defence courses only teach defensive responses to an attack once it has begun. I am of the opinion that’s not only a bit late, it’s also certainly not enough to survive a Mass Casualty Event in these days and times.

It was several years ago now that I recognized that the basic strategy of Close Protection provided a simple but effective survival plan that could be applied to civilians.

Situation Report by RANE

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have joined the United States and the United Kingdom in calling for a reversal of Sudan’s Oct. 25 military coup.

Both countries had previously expressed support for Sudanese military leaders. Deposed Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok remains under house arrest. Reports say he refuses to negotiate with the military until all civilian officials have been released from detention and the authority of civilian leaders is restored.

It is unclear whether the talks will be successful and whether various factions of TTP will agree to a cease-fire. If the Taliban successfully mediates these talks and prevents TTP attacks that originate from Afghanistan, it could gain some credibility in the eyes of regional countries. This credibility could lead to additional economic and political support for Afghanistan.
